Academic English Program - Bridge
Program Overview
The AEP Bridge program is designed for international students holding an F-1 visa. The Bridge program consists of both core academic English courses and American culture courses.
Students take 13 college credits and 5 AEP hours in the Fall semester.
In the Spring semester, students take 15 college credits and 3 AEP hours.
Program Learning Outcomes
Students completing the AEP Bridge program:
- Develop the language knowledge, language skills, and cultural understanding to meet basic life needs in the United States both on and off campus.
- Develop high-intermediate level language skills and strategies (listening, speaking, reading, writing, and vocabulary) and critical thinking skills necessary for engaging in academic learning in the United States.
- Develop the language knowledge, language skills, and cultural and religious understanding necessary to engage in academic learning at a Christian college in the United States and particularly Messiah College.
- Develop learner autonomy including an understanding of the importance of taking responsibility for learning, and the skills necessary for making strategic and effective academic choices.

Course based on the student's major must be approved by the Academic English Program director.
Note: All students who major in PreK– 4 must complete a twelve-credit Disciplinary Focus to provide depth in an academic discipline other than Education. Students elect twelve credits from a single academic discipline (or two closely related disciplines) other than Education. The twelve credits may not overlap with any other QuEST or major Requirements. Course selections must be approved by the advisor and the Department of Education chair. Students who wish to complete a college-approved minor will need to take additional courses.
