BIOL 172 Diversity of Life

An introduction to the diversity of life, including biological systematics, evolutionary theory, zoology, and plant biology. Topics include the processes and patterns of speciation, phylogenies, and the major clades of life. A systems approach to comparative zoology and botany emphasizes the integrative functional morphology in diverse environments. Laboratory emphasizes dissection of representative animals and plants. While this course meets General Education Natural Science Lab requirement for all majors, it is taught at a level appropriate for science majors.
