SOWK 372 Social Work Practice with Groups

This is the third class in a series of practice courses in Social Work. The course examines the dynamics of the small group. Various theoretical conceptualizations of the role of the Social Worker in the group are discussed. Concepts such as group dynamics, norms, and roles are examined. Group leadership skills for planning, facilitating, and evaluating groups will be developed and practiced. Content will include identifying and implementing group related empirically based interventions and services designed to achieve client and community goals. There is also a focus on the interplay between Social Work and community groups. SOWK 372 requires a minimum grade of C+ in all previous SOWK courses to progress in the major.
