STAT 417 Mathematical Statistics

Mathematical statistics explores the theory underlying probability, statistical estimation, and hypothesis testing with more rigor than is covered in STAT 291. Students will learn to prove theorems related to random variables and their distributions, distributions of functions of random variables, moment generating functions, sampling distributions, limiting distributions, and the Central Limit Theorem.
