BALT 307 Christian Public Engagement in Pluralist Societies

This course integrates theological studies with fieldwork in Washington, D.C., examining how Christians engage in public life today. Organized into five modules, the course establishes a framework for studying matters of identity and responsibility in public life, compares historical approaches to religion’s role in society, explores the roots of political affiliation and activity among Evangelicals in the U.S., analyzes social and political polarization in the 21st century, and examines how the Biblical narrative informs Christian identity and responsibility. Students engage with professionals from diverse theological and political perspectives, connecting interdisciplinary applications of course themes throughout the semester.
