ENGL 270 Critical Theory

This course explores how different critical approaches shape the experience of literary texts. Students examine, compare, and practice a wide variety of established critical approaches to literary study, such as theories of Formalism, Psychoanalysis, Marxism, Reader Response, Deconstruction, Cultural Studies, Post-colonialism, Gender, Race, and Disability, in order to understand better the role of the critic in producing knowledge and to develop their own critical capacities. Fulfills Writing in the Major for the Department of Language, Literature & Writing.
