SOWK 260 Introduction to Child Welfare

This course will offer an overview of child welfare history and discuss current policies and practice concerns in the child welfare field. Students will learn about child protective services, foster care, adoption, and resources utilized to support child welfare service delivery. Applying the cultural humility approach, the students will consider diverse populations' experiences in the child welfare system. The course will also cover safety and risk assessment and discuss current best practices in child welfare interventions from a trauma-informed lens.
