SUST 250 Nordic Cultures and Sustainability

This course offers students an immersive exploration of the histories, cultures and futures of Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Iceland through a combination of readings, travel, and visits to key sites. It focuses on key themes such as energy, architecture and city planning, agriculture, transportation, waste management, climate change, religion, literature, and wellbeing. Students will visit major cities— Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen, and Reykjavík—as well as remote mountain, fjord, and island locations. Students will experience local life firsthand through a homestay. This experience will grant students unique and applicable perspectives on sustainable living in four of the world’s highest-ranked sustainable countries.
