HIST 102 Modern European History Survey

Through its rise to global prominence, Europe’s history has become inextricably intertwined with common understandings of modernity. In this course, students explore the social, economic, political, religious, and cultural developments that have shaped Europe over the past five hundred years and consider how these historical moments live on in our present moment. Topics include the Renaissance and Reformation, the Industrial Revolution, the modern nation state, colonialism and empire, and the global conflicts of the twentieth century.
