SPAN 331 Trans-Atlantic Early Modern Literature

This course examines how the written word shaped a transatlantic literary culture linking Spain and its American colonies. Starting with travel accounts and letters, students will study depictions of natives and colonizers, and the role of intellectuals in forming a circum-Atlantic identity. The class develops critical and analytical skills in reading literary language while exploring how authors engaged with the ideological, aesthetic, social, political, and cultural issues of their times.
