EDME 524 Teaching Language and Content

Intended for practicing teachers of any subject or grade who have English learners (ELs) in their classes, this course provides an understanding and application of the theories and practices of integrating language and content learning in the regular classroom. Students will learn methodologies and assessment strategies that are appropriate for ELs, both for language acquisition and for content learning. In addition to general methodologies, students will investigate specific strategies for teaching language and content to English learners at various language levels in a specific content area. Students will apply learning through active teaching, guided reflection on teaching, and individualized projects on meeting the needs of ELs within a specific grade level and content area.
