POLI 372 Preparing for Public Service

The purpose of this course is to prepare students for some of the practical and theoretical skills required for successful public service. Specifically, this course looks at the disciplines of public service that are often avoided in school. The "soft skills" of networking, story telling/public narrative, brainstorming, running a meeting, proper meeting attendance behavior, etc have traditionally been viewed as non-academic, but there is lots of literature around all these areas worthy of attention, and these skills are critical in distinguishing the successful from the unsuccessful in professional settings.
