Financial Planning Certificate
Certificate Overview
This undergraduate Financial Planning Certificate certifies that students who have taken these series of courses have obtained skills in the specialty of Financial Planning. The program is registered with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. (CFP Board) and meets the CFP Board education requirement for students to be able to sit for the CFP® exam. Students earning this certificate will be prepared to take the Certified Financial Planning Exam.
Program Learning Outcomes
Graduates from Messiah’s Financial Planning certificate can:
- Students will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the required professional conduct and regulation for financial professionals. (ULO 4, ULO 5, ULO 6)
- Students will demonstrate the ability to develop a comprehensive financial plan for potential clients. (ULO 2, ULO 3)
- Students will use Microsoft Excel to create detailed budgets and long-term savings projections intended to achieve client retirement funding goals. (ULO 2)
Certificate Requirements (18-42 credits)
Complete the following for your certificate:
ACCT 347 and FINA 351 require the following prerequisite courses (18-19 credits) including ACCT 131, ECON 120, ECON 220, FINA 305, STAT 281 and one of MATH 107, 108 or 111. These prerequisite courses are part of the Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, International Business and Marketing core, and do not increase the size of the certificate for those majors.
