CHIN 220 Modern Chinese Culture: A Cup of Tea

This course is designed as an in-depth survey of modern Chinese culture. Students will learn key elements of contemporary Chinese culture and life, with reference to the past and its impact on China today. This course aims to encourage students to compare their base culture with Chinese popular culture and develop critical thinking in analysis of Chinese culture and society. Units of topics include 1) basic introduction to Chinese language and history, 2) education and calligraphy, 3) social life, social media, food, and tea, 4) basic business etiquette and 5) advice for Westerners living and working in China.
