HLTH 932 Advanced Upper Quadrant Integration
This course will utilize case-based instruction to illustrate specific health condition scripts of the integrated upper quadrant and the decision-making process inherent to their total management. Designed to develop intermediate to advanced clinical reasoning skills in utilizing a comprehensive and contemporary manual physical therapy approach, students will develop the skills necessary to construct detailed exploration of the etiology of presenting signs and symptoms. Complex, multi-region patient/client impairments of the neuromusculoskeletal system will be analyzed based on the various motion, load transfer and control impairment models available, including original, and novel, thoughts, and theory. Management will focus on a multi-faceted approach integrating the functional needs of and in collaboration with the patient/client. Total management encompasses a manual physical therapy approach that integrates hands-on joint and soft tissue neurophysiological
techniques, integration of pain and health sciences, neuromuscular re-education, sensorimotor integration, and individualized skilled prescription of therapeutic activities and exercise.
