HLTH 936 Theory and Practice of Advanced Spinal HVLAT

This course will utilize case-based instruction to develop advanced evidence-informed spinal manipulation/thrust skills within a comprehensive and contemporary manual physical therapy approach to specific health condition scripts of the lumbar spine, thoraco-lumbar junction, and pelvic girdle regions. Complex, multi-region patient/client impairments of the neuromuscular-skeletal system will be analyzed based on the various models available for regional and segmental motion and function, load transfer and control impairment (relative increase or decrease in mobility and control), including original, and novel, thoughts, and theory. Management will focus on a multi-faceted approach integrating the functional needs of and in collaboration with the patient/client. Total management integrates neurophysiological and biomechanical-based manipulation techniques, integration of pain and health sciences, neuromuscular re-education, sensorimotor integration, adjunct interventions
and individualized skilled prescription of therapeutic activities and exercise.
