PSYC 252 Industrial and Organizational Psychology

This course provides an introduction to theory and application of Industrial and Organizational Psychology.  This area of study examines psychology applied to the workplace.  The two-part name reflects the field’s dual nature, with the “Industrial” part concerned with the human resource functions of analyzing jobs, and appraising, selecting, placing and training employees. The “Organization” part is concerned with the psychology of work, including group dynamics, leadership, and consumer behavior. We will consider various theoretical approaches, theory-based applications, and cultural factors while studying a wide variety of organizations. Both application and empirical findings will be emphasized throughout the course.
