BALT 451 Public Health Internship and Seminar

This course provides academic scaffolding, guided reflection, seminar-based learning, and assessment for urban public health internships. Internships include mentorship from multicultural clinicians in human protection, health improvement, and community health services in clinics and agencies of Baltimore, MD, Philadelphia, PA, New York, NY, and Washington DC. Students gain an introduction to the foundational principles of public health and engage in constructivist learning from 3 months of urban public health learning experiences supported by academic readings, seminar discussions, and reflective writing assignments. This is a variable credit course: .5 credit of seat time plus 40 hours internship per credit hour.
