SPAN 303 US Latino Migration Narratives

Students explore migration narratives written by a diverse group of contemporary US Latino writers. The readings include the experiences of Mexican, Central American, Puerto Rican, Cuban and Dominican migrants as well as children’s experiences. Students examine the historical and political causes driving the migration of particular Hispanic groups. Class readings, discussions and assignments center on migration through the lenses of identity, education, language, faith, and family. Students should be prepared to complete advanced-level readings in Spanish and participate fully in class discussions in Spanish.
