Program Overview
Pre-Occupational Therapy Concentration. Students in the accelerated program will earn a bachelor's degree in Applied Health Science and a Masters of Occupational Therapy from Messiah University. Acceptance into this program as a first-year student indicates acceptance into the five-year accelerated curriculum culminating in a Masters degree. Program Learning Outcomes
Graduates from Messiah’s Applied Health Science program can:
- Describe the anatomical and physiological responses to acute and chronic exercise.
- Explain the role of exercise in disease prevention.
- Prescribe safe and effective exercise programs for diverse individuals.
- Integrate scientific information and research into professional situations.
- Identify factors influencing health and human performance.
- Identify how faith impacts professional practice in the applied health sciences.
Graduates from Messiah’s MOT program can
- Develop a sound understanding on theoretical knowledge base that is foundational to the practice of occupational therapy
- Demonstrate the skill of a competent entry-level occupational therapy practitioner
- Use scholarly inquiry and evidence based practice while engaged in the art and science of occupational therapy.
- Demonstrate competent clinical skills practicing according to ethical principles that benefit the client and other stakeholders
- Articulate the connection between personal faith-commitments and service, leadership and reconciliation within OT practice.
- Demonstrate respect for culture and diversity in occupation-centered practice while engaging with diverse individuals, groups, and communities.
