Program Learning Outcomes

Graduates from Messiah’s Film and Media Arts program can:

  1. Demonstrate competency in aural, visual, and written storytelling skills.
  2. Demonstrate achievement of professional, entry-level competence in film production, including significant technical mastery, ability to produce work that communicates coherent artistic/intellectual goals, and solve professional problems independently and interdependently.
  3. Identify the histories, critical theories, research methods, and cultural contexts of film.
  4. Explain how various media platforms work, how they produce meanings, how they are organized, and how to use them wisely and effectively.
  5. Explain how to form and maintain healthy relationships with diverse others.
  6. Construct discourse intended to inform, persuade, and entertain.
  7. Articulate ethical communication principles and practices.
  8. Explain research methods in communication.
  9. Communicate effectively, ethically, and appropriately through writing, interaction, and speaking in public, interpersonal, and group contexts.
  10. Display proficiency in one area of communication sufficient to pursue a career and/or continue education at the graduate level.
  11. Articulate an awareness of options for employment in a communication-related.
  12. Articulate how faith connects to the discipline and students’ area of specialization in Communication.
