OCCU 501 Foundations of Occupational Therapy

This course is designed to introduce students to the occupational therapy profession, including studying the historical and philosophical foundations and the core values and basic tenets of the profession.  The course focuses on introducing students to occupational therapy practice settings, theory, and policy.  In addition, students will learn critical skills to be successful occupational therapy students and future occupational therapy practitioners, including an introduction to evidence-based practice, completion of a basic literature review, and an in-depth study of ethics.  Professional documents, professional organizations, professional standards for documentation, and the roles and responsibilities of occupational therapy personnel will be discussed.
