RELI 342 Religious Pluralism in America

Religious pluralism has been a contested ideal throughout American history. Students examine both the reality of religious pluralism in the United States and the debates/conflicts that religious diversity has engendered. In addition to examining “religious freedom” as a legal construct and cultural ideal, students will consider claims that America is essentially a Christian nation and the related phenomenon of white Christian nationalism.
