ENGL 355 American Women's Writing

This course examines literary texts by American women writers with diverse voices, experiences, and perspectives of life in the United States throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. The course emphasizes a chronological history of women writers and gives special attention to the political, cultural, and literary contexts that shape their writing as well as the ways their writing shapes politics, culture, and art. The course may include authors such as Kate Chopin, Nella Larsen, Miné Okubo, Sylvia Plath, Sandra Cisneros, Marilyn Robinson, Alice Walker, Toni Morrison, and Louise Erdrich.
