OCCU 512 Developmental and Psychosocial Considerations in OT

This course explores the intersection of psychosocial and developmental factors in occupational therapy practice. Students will understand the psychological and emotional aspects influencing individual development, health, and well-being. Therapeutic use of self, a trauma-informed lens, empathy, and client interaction skills are threaded throughout the course. The course will cover theories of human development and analyze psychosocial factors that impact occupational engagement including self-regulation, emotional regulation, sensory processing and social & communication skills. Students will develop the clinical knowledge and soft skills necessary to address the psychosocial and developmental needs of diverse client populations.
