SPAN 301 Topics in Latin American Literature

Read, discuss, and respond to literature by significant Latin American writers. Explore the techniques of diverse literary expressions within the Latin American tradition and reflect on the connections between history, culture and literature. Readings will vary by semester and instructor but will reflect diverse Latin American experiences and may include the pre-Columbian, Colonial, Romantic, Modernist or contemporary periods and genres in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama. Strengthen skills in reading, writing, and speaking at an advanced Spanish level. Appreciate some of the masterpieces of Latin America’s best writers such as Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Rubén Darío, Jorge Luis Borges, Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Isabel Allende.
