SPAN 311 Topics in Spanish Peninsular Literature

This course studies the literature of Spain through the reading of texts from Medieval times to the present according to the topic selected. We will read texts from the most relevant authors of Spain to allow students to develop a knowledge of its literary and artistic productions as well as the religious, political, and philosophical culture from which they emerge. The work in this class allows for a development in the students’ critical and analytical sensitivity to literary language. We will discuss how the authors respond to the normative ideologies of their own times and approach literary, aesthetic, social, political, and cultural issues.
