SPAN 302 Culture and Identity in Latin America

Students explore the diverse cultures and unique cultural identities present in contemporary Latin America through a variety of texts, films and music that may vary from semester to semester. Students study the numerous geographic regions that compose Latin America and identify both unifying elements and elements that create diversity. Students examine how history has shaped the culture present today in Latin America. Students discuss regional differences in South America, Brazil, Central America, the Caribbean, and Mexico. Students discuss contemporary issues in Latin America such as social class, urbanization, ethnicity, education and religion.
