NURS 725 Advanced Family Nursing Practice of Older Adults

This course expands on older adult assessment concepts, emphasizing the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic conditions commonly encountered in primary healthcare settings. Students will apply advanced pathophysiology, pharmacology, health assessment, diagnostics, and differential diagnosis to guide clinical decision-making based on evidence-based practice guidelines. Using a systems approach, the course highlights chronic care management, health promotion, disease prevention, and restorative/supportive care. Through clinical practicum hours, students will provide compassionate care while promoting self-care and quality of life in older adult populations. Ethical dilemmas encountered by advanced practice nurses when caring for the older adult population are analyzed. Prerequisite: NURS 703. Corequisite: NURS 725C. (4.5 credits, 3 credits theory, 1.5 credits clinical = 90 hours).
