HIST 274 History of Asia since 1500 CE

Students examine the varied, complex, and rich histories of Asia since 1500 CE that produced new patterns of order and interaction as the continent became increasingly drawn into intercultural engagements with the Global North, including the gradual demise of traditional state formations, the rise of European Imperialism, the emergence of national and subaltern movements, the growth of capitalism, modernity and Globalization, and the condition of “postmodernity.” Students engage content from the Global South in ways that enhance their intercultural literacy, self-awareness, and the possibilities for reconciliation in the midst of ongoing planetary wear and tear.
