NURS 550 Teaching Practicum

This course focuses on developing nurse educator competencies in both higher education and clinical practice learning environments to facilitate role formation. Students use various teaching modalities that facilitate critical thinking and clinical decision-making in learners. Emphasis is placed on applying theory and evidence-based teaching practices through mentored practicum experiences. Throughout the practicum, students will assume increasing responsibility in various educator roles, fostering their ability to implement effective solutions, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and influence positive changes within nursing education. The course prepares students for nursing education roles, empowering them to utilize student-centered approaches and foster a culture of safety, civility, and excellence. This is a variable credit course (1 – 3 credits). One credit equals 60 hours of practicum, and 180 hours are needed. Prerequisites: NURS 520, NURS 521, and NURS 522.
